Everyone learns along the way, whether they want to or not even. Your experience grows with each little thing you do, but how do you use that experience to help you? Through advancing! However, sometimes you learn skills faster in certian situations, no? The same thing applies here! There are three ways to train or advance your skills. The first way is through basic Studying. Because this is the slowest, it costs the most, double than normal even. However, if you study with someone else, you can cut it down slightly to one and a half rather than double. Lastly, the easiest way to advance yourself is getting direct experience from it through a situation using it. So yes, if you wish to advance yourself, you not only have to let me or another storyteller know, but you must do it in an RP too! If you do not, than how can you gain knowledge? So if you were in a gun fight recently and wish to improve your gun skills, do so, but if you wish to improve your gun skills and haven't been doing anything to do so, a storyteller will set up a scenorio just for you!
Study Buddy- This can be another person that is quite literally training you, or a mechanical device set up to simulate a real fight. A punching bag would NOT be considered a buddy, but rather a dummy with pegs and other objects would be. Or even the Slappy Dummy from The Master of Disguise, being the perfect example of a mechanical device that would be considered a 'Buddy.'
Buying off Complications
To buy off a complication is not as easy as you'd think. First off you have to be in a situation where it is possible to even do so. On top of that it will cost experience. To buy off a Minor Complication costs you 10 experience. A Major costs 20, however you might be able to get lucky to bring a Major down to a Minor for 10 experience. But as stated before, your character must go through the needed steps in RP before it can truly be bought off.
Skill Number - Studying Cost - Study Buddy Cost - Raw Experience Cost
2 - 4 - 3 - 2
4 - 8 - 6 - 4
6 - 12 - 9 - 6
8 - 16 - 12 - 8
10 - 20 - 15 - 10
12 - 24 - 18 - 12
14 - 28 - 21 - 14
16 - 32 - 24 - 16
